Ananas Comosus (commonly known as ornamental pineapple) has sword-like, spiny, green leaves, held in a dense rosette, with the fruit held in the center on a sturdy stalk.
It is a curious plant with an ornamental pineapple growing from the top, but this pineapple is not for eating. And whilst the classic pineapple is yellow and green, the ornamental version is more dark pink.
The leaves can be grey-green, but also green with pink. They are tough and loose little water through evaporation. They have small root system and are not too fussy about the quality or quantity of their soil. Due to this they make for an excellent container grown plant.
It’s a very easy plant and maintain in your home. Just water it from time to time and you will be able to enjoy it’s beauty for up to six months.
Sunlight: Bright direct sunlight to bright indirect light.
Watering: Water regularly while allowing the soil to dry out between watering.
Fertiliser: Can be fertilised with diluted fertiliser at quarter strength once a month, but can grow nicely even without it.
Repotting: No frequent repotting required due to shallow root system.
