Dracaena reflexa is a famous houseplant with birthplaces in Madagascar and other Indian sea islands. The birthplace of the plant name originates from the old Greek word drakaina or “female mythical serpent,” because of a red gum-like pitch in the stems of dracaena that was compared to winged serpent blood. Hundreds of years prior, this pitch was utilized for toothpaste, colors, and prescriptions. Today, it is as yet utilized for varnish and photoengraving. The dracaena plant is otherwise called the Song of India and Pleomele.
