Chakotra tree is tall with possibly crooked trunk and low hanging irregular branches. Leave petioles (spines) are distinctly winged, with alternative elliptic shapes. The upper part of the leaf is leathery green and the lower leaf is hairy.

The flowers are fragrant and yellow-white in color. The flowers form on the younger growth of the plant which start to appear from late winter.
