Cordyline

Cordyline are common decorative plants that thrives outdoors, but also makes and excellent houseplant. Cordyline typically has leathery leaves shaped like a spear or lance with a variety of colouring including green, red, yellow, white, purple, and purplish-red.

They grow on thick stems which get hard and brown as they mature. The plant produces multiple branches when pruned and become bushier. You can grow them on table tops when planted in small containers or as a large plant when potted in a bigger pot.

Some species in their group have fragrant flowers followed by berried. They bloom in early summer and then berries will appear after flowers.

Description

Light: Grows best in medium-bright indirect light with some direct sunlight.

Watering: Water normally while allowing the soil to dry out in between.

Fertiliser: Pour a nitrogen rich fertiliser once a month.

Pest: They do not go to war with any pests.

Problems: Low light can make the plant leggy. Too much sunlight can cause leaf burn.

Grow Tips: Keep the plant in bright indirect light to get the best variegation.
